Learning Objectives:
- I can explain that oceans make up 71% of the earth’s surface and freshwater make up 2.2%.
- I can explain that algae (ex: phytoplankton) in aquatic biomes produce 1/2 of the earth’s oxygen on which we depend for survival by taking in carbon dioxide from the atmosphere for photosythesis (natural service).
- I can identify the major freshwater biomes (streams, rivers, ponds, & lakes) and I know that they are a vital resource for drinking water.
- I can identify the major marine biomes (oceans, coral reefs, marshland, and estuaries).
- I can explain how salinity, depth, turbidity, nutrient availability, and temperature relate to water quality testing, and how each of them could affect the marine resources, such as fish.
